After he got back from deployment, he moved into a
tiny off-grid cabin on the edge of state land.
Didn’t watch the news. Didn’t use the internet. Just
books, radio, shortwave chatter.
Said he didn’t trust “the towers.”
I used to think it was PTSD. Maybe he’d just seen
too much.
But now?
I know he knew something.
Because the last time I saw him, a few weeks
before the crash…
He looked me dead in the eye and said:
“You ever notice how they never run out of water at
the Pentagon?”
I laughed it off… He didn’t.
He just shook his head and told me:
“If anything ever happens to me… Look in the
glovebox.”
That was the last thing he ever said to me.
A week later, his Jeep went off the road on a
clear day.
